Under Deck Storage
To get the most out of our decks and patios Belmont homeowners focus on creating
comfortable and functional outdoor living spaces filled with patio and deck furniture,
outdoor umbrellas, barbeques, firepits, creative lighting, and other aesthetically pleasing
furnishings. When we have pleasant weather, our outdoor living spaces provide
welcoming places to relax, entertain, and spend time with our family and friends.
There are homeowners in our community, especially in homes that have limited
space, who are storing things under their decks ranging from a few things to an
accumulation of “stuff” that just doesn’t belong there. This space is not intended to be
used for storage purposes. Our association cannot be expected to decide how many or
what kind of things can be reasonably stored under a deck. It’s just not a practical
approach to this kind of problem; therefore, an across-the board-approach has been
taken… Nothing should be stored outside of your home that would create an
unsightly condition and nothing can be stored underneath the deck in the rear of
you house.
When you have a storage problem, moving things that may be piling up in your
house or garage to the area beneath your deck may seem to be a simple solution. After
all, when something is under your deck, you no longer have to look at it… Unfortunately,
this can then become your neighbor’s problem when they are forced to look at what
they might consider to be “your mess”. If this kind of behavior becomes common it can
have an adverse effect on the appearance of a neighborhood and lower community
property values.
Please remember…This is not just about association rules.
Keeping your lot neat and clean is a common courtesy that benefits
your neighbors and the well-being of your neighborhood.
Your cooperation will be very much appreciated!
